Shaskys and A's tie at West Albany 5-5

It was a great night for baseball as the Shaskys and the A's played a very tough, close, and competitive game last night at West Albany. The Shaskys went up early, the A's caught up and went ahead with the help of a Home Run by Ed Class, and the Shaskys scored a tying run later to knot the score at 5-5.

A late bid for a go ahead run by the A's was stopped with a very exciting play at the plate after a throw from Tom Rosario in center was relayed by Pitcher Scott Lawson to catcher Manny Marruffo who applied the tag in a bang-bang play at the plate.

Pitcher Andy Sardella was very effective for the A's, going the full 7 innings. On the hill for the Shaskys, Rich Cooney only gave up 3 earned runs in going 4, relieved by Scott Lawson throwing 3 scoreless innings.

The game was called in the top of the 8th inning when it got real hard to see the ball after a couple of batters went to the plate.

As always, the Shaskys and the A's mixed it up in a great spirit of competition and comradeship. We all breathed a sigh of relief when miraculously a bat that went airborne out of the hands of an A's hitter was launched out of the park and into a crowd watching a game at the adjacent field and slipped by two spectator's heads by literally inches before crashing into their backstop. Thank god for that pinpoint accuracy and luck of chance!

Again, a great night of baseball. Thanks Ray, I hope the schedule gods deem us worthy of a rematch later in the season.

Ed, sorry to say that we'll need to impound that bat for X-rays. Should have it back to you in a couple of weeks. Maybe you can borrow one of Big Papi's since he doesn't seem to need them.
