Wednesday night at Burnt Hills the Mets topped the Silver Marlins 2-1 in a game with zero RBI's. The Marlins got their run on a first and third "wounded duck" play. Darnell Baker was on third and courtesy runner, Curt Coons on first with two outs. Curt took off for second prompting the pitcher to step off and chase him down. Curt stopped in the miidle of the baseline and stayed in the run-down long enough to allow Darnell Baker to score from third. In the bottom of the second, the Mets scored two runs without the needing anyone to drive the runners in. With runners on the corners, they had a base runner steal second while the runner on third took off for home. The Marlins executed the cut off play in plenty of time to get the runner, but botched the run-down and the first runner was in and the runner from first ended up on third. A wild pitch scored that runner, and the score was 2-1 after 2 innings. The rest of the way both pitchers shutout their opponents. Darnell Baker used an overpowering fastball and a sick uncle charlie to get the job done. For the Mets, Jim Janzen got it done with outstanding location. In the top of the seventh, it looked as though the Marlins would pull off another late rally when Mike Girard and Ron Lochner opened the inning with consecutive singles. Jim Bonaparte then called on Chris Dunn to come on in relief. He got Darnell Baker to lift a fly ball to right center that allowed Girard to tag and get to third with one out. The Marlins were unable to plate the tying run as Dunn got Coons to hit a one bouncer to a drawn in third baseman for out number two, and got Jim Ansel to ground out to second to end the game.
Hats off to both pitchers, as they held some very good hitting line-ups in check!!!

Mike, I could not have said it any better, as 2 very good hitting line ups were held at bay all night. This was a exciting game and I don't have any nails left. Darnell and Jim threw great games and as expected got good defense behind them. I look forwards to the next meeting at New Scotland and the beers afterwords. Good luck the rest of the way .
