aging orioles 10, peppers 2

once again, the aging orioles are looking good and they beat the red hot chili peppers, 10-2 at the knick on thursday night.

the o's have added strength to an already strong team, with former pepper steve lounello playing short and pitching. he relieved mike kravitz after four or five innings and the two did a fine job. i don't have the scorebook in front of me, so i can't cite stats. my impression is that mike still has that 3/4-sidearm delivery that sends balls leaping and dancing on the way to the plate and steve's got a nice fastball.

the o's scored 8 runs in the first inning. i told my players before we took the field - i pitched - let's look at this as part of our spring training, and get the kinks out.them kinks. wow. but after that immemorable first, we settled down, made some nice plays in the field and finished with a 2-2 game. alas, they count first innings, too.

one thing to note: we played our first two innings at lansingburgh's field not the knick. two jayvee teams were on the knick's field when i got there at 5:20 - and they were only in the fourth inning. they got done about 6:15-6:20, when we took over the field.fortunately we already had two innings in; it's unlikely if we had waited till the kids finished that we'd have finished our game. i heard that nearly the same thing happened on monday - except that the msbl teams got kicked off the lansingburgh field and didn't get to start over at the knick till about 6:30. kevin jackson stopped by with baseballs about 6 and said he didn't like what's happening - having to wait to get on the knick field - though we didn't have a chance to discuss it.
