A very tight, competitive game all the way through. The Cubs scored first in the second on a Ted Martin single, a SB and Dan Ryan driving him in. Stayed that way until the 4th when the Cubbies struck for three more starting with a lead-off HR from Andy Hoyle and then taking advantage of a couple A's misplays for two more.
After 4 innings of quick at bats against Jon Martin (where it seemed he was only throwing about 6 pitches each inning), the A's finally broke through for 6 runs in the 5th with big, 2 out hits coming from Kevin (All Star) Golden (single - 1RBI), David (The Hip) Schillinger (single - 2 RBI) and Wayne (Angelina) Newcomb (double - 2 RBI).
In the 6th, the A's got one more, by Scott! (Scott Clement - double; Scott Travis - single) and the Cubs got it back on three consecutive singles by Jon Martin, Ryan and Dave VanWormer.
The A's took back the three run lead on a bases loaded HBP on Scott Clement.
It was a very nicely pitched game with Brian Kent (4 innings - win) and Herb Cepeda (3 innings - save) going for the A's and the Martin connection - Jon (5 innings) and Ted (2 innings) throwing for the Cubs. (I hope I have that right)
