The Blue Thunder defeated the Dodgers 11 to 1 today in a game that was stopped by the umpire in the bottom of the 5th inning per the mercy rule that we have in this league.I for one do not like the mercy rule but I would have at least liked to have played 5 complete innings instead of the umpire being in a hurry to call the game as soon as the Thunder scored the run to make it a 10 run lead. I know that I am not the only player or manager that does not like this 10 run rule. This game lasted 1 hour 40 mins.We pay to play in this league,we pay the umps a good fee and a lot of players travel a good distance to play these games. The last thing we want is to go home not getting to play 7 innings. I hope that this rule is something that the board reviews.
If you go to page 5 of the bulletin board, you will see 328 views when I wrote about not liking the mercy rule. It needs to be addressed, and I think this board, with the help of managers, players, and umpires, will implement a change for next season. Jim Porter-Manager-WhizKids-55+ Division
Ed - I'm listening - I don't agree, but I'm listening. I was on the winning end today, and yesterday I was on the losing end of an Outlaw massacre against the Cubs. Both, in my humble opinion, ended when they should have.
Regardless, I will propose to the board, that, next season, that is if I'm still delirious enough to serve in such capacity, IF BOTH TEAMS AGREE, the game will continue to its conclusion. Sometimes my haste to get to the cooler blinds my judgement. I guess I should follow big brothers lead ( Ted ) and hit the cooler all game long!!
Keep the comments coming - You guys ARE the league.
