Game two of the Pirates - Marlins quarter final series stands at 4-4 after 6 innings. Why did we not get to finish the game that was scheduled for the A-Diamond because it had lights?! Well, nobody from the city of Schenectady showed up to turn them on for us.
The Pirates scored one run in the top of the first and one in the top of the second. The Marlins plated two runs in the bottom of the first. Both Joey Burns and Chuck Sohl settled in and made things tough on opposing hitters in the third and fourth innings. The Pirates started the 5th inning with runners on second and third and no outs after a Marlins error and a Mike Kane single. Mike Girard came on in relief of Chuck Sohl for the Marlins and was promptly greeted by an RBI single by Mark Callahan. A pitch in the dirt that squirted away from replacement catcher Ryan Carmichael accounted for the 4th Pirate run. Girard then got a ground out and two infield pop outs to escape further damage. As the skies were getting dark and it was apparent that the lights were not going to get turned on, the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth innings went rather quickly. The Marlins half of the sixth was going to be the last inning on Thursday night. Mike Clary got it started right with a sharp single. After one out, Phil Gadomski walked and Ryan Carmichael reached on an error to load the bases. A fielders choice by Skip Treece plated one run, and a Pirate error accounted for the tying run. With runners on first and third and two out, Mike Girard came to ther plate for the Marlins with a chance to grab the lead, but Joe made a good pitch and got Girard to pop out to second base.
This game will be finished at 9:00am Saturday morning at a field to be determined. If the Marlins come out on top, game three will start at 10:00am. Stay tuned for an announcement as to where this exciting conclusion will happen.
