2010 Free Agency Ruling

I am a bit confused in regard to the new ruling as far as the new Free Agency Rule. What is stated for Free Agency, is that a player can REQUEST to be released from a team, and that request can be honored by a teams manager.
So, a manager can still block a player wanting to switch to another club?? It was my understanding that FREE AGENCY was to be open to any player which could go to any club he wishes.
Quentin,Kevin, John, can any of you please clarify this new ruling.

Thanks,
Mike Eplite

I ,also have a question. If a player asked and was granted a release from a team, and welcomed by another team. Is there any one person ,that can block this from happening. I was not crazy about the rule. But the board voted it in. So then I will, and everyone should abide by the rule. If at the end of this year, it does not work. It can always be revisited next year. No one person should be able to block anyone, as long as they follow the rules. We vote the board in, and they have a tough job. What they say must be held up, even if everyone does not agree.

I think you guys are confusing what happens after February 1 with the general rule. From the end of the season through January 31st everything is wide open and free movement is allowed.

After February 1 you need the permission of the GM.

John C. is correct. All players are free to move at will up untill Feb 1st of next year.

I am a board member who helped draft this policy. I wanted Feb. 1st to be the absolute latest day that players could move freely so as to give managers ample time to solidify their rosters for the upcoming season.

I would hope that players will show respect for their former teams, and notify their managers in a timely manner if they desire to leave.

I have always been of the opinion that this is a recreational league. We pay to play, and I believe, along with that, comes the option to play in the best situation we desire.
I want guys to play ball, and enjoy doing it. The idea that, potentially, somebody would have to give up ball for a year to be able to switch teams was unacceptable.

I also believe that this new policy will only impact a very small number of players. Most of us will probably stay with our current teams. Regardless, I am very confident that when the "hot stove" burns out this winter, the CDMSBL will be stronger than ever.

I had a team actually offer to pay me what I was worth and I told them, "I can't work that cheap."

Let me first address players. If you are inclined to move, you initiate that process by informing your manager between the end of your team's season and Feb 1st. you need to also inform your commish. In the 45 and 55's a simple email will do. (Other commissioners may require something different.) you can be stopped from moving if your mgr. says you owe money or other team property. If anything is disputed it can can be settled by board action. (theoretically you could go back to your old team! ( your manager might not be too keen on that though!)

If you wait till Feb 1st and want to move, its like the old process that required a mgr's release. this continues till the end of the season. its always up to the player to find a place to land. Once alighting you are added to the roster when the mgr. of your new team informs the commissioner. you can join a team till July 1st (in the 45 and 55s ...I don't know off-hand the "roster frozen date" for the other age divisions). After that you cannot join a team till after the season is over.

If you are not on team or have sat out a year you can join any team that wants you from the end of the season till that july 1st date.

so as a player best to do things during this "free agency" season.

As a manager the roster you ended the 2009 season with is still active. the league or commish will maintain it and publish it . if someone leaves and the player follows protocol we'll delete them from your roster.

you may find that some players just drop out without intentions of moving. when you submit your 2010 updates we assume you will drop them from your team and inform us so we can delete them from your roster. If he doesn't play a year or season he is automatically considered a free agent and can do as he pleases the following year(s). holding his name on the roster only confuses this point.

a manager can always "cut' a player at anytime (side note: ...and let me be clear here....the League is not responsible to pay any refunds in this case as the league collects team fees, not player fees. a player wanting some refund should approach his GM and settle. and players should realize that this puts pressure on the GM to collect your refund from the players on the team. Additionally your player fee that you pay a GM doesn't travel with you to a new team. ) ....BTW a "cut" player can move anywhere he can find a home but not from July 1st to the end of the season.

any player added needs to register with his new team and submit that paperwork. that would include the registration , waiver and COC. as a manager you won't be submitting rosters as in the past, just the adds and deletes.

I say have at it boys. find your greener pastures, your new digs, go where your comfortable . just follow the protocol.

board member and commisioner 45's and 55's. Jreel
