fordians 6, marlins 5

Both teams had 9 guys, so we didn't get to keep the scorebook when the marlins batted.
The Fordians scored 4 times in the first inning thanks to three walks and three singles.
Rodney Dunbar and Tony Meilak each had 2 hits for the 4-3 Fordians.
Ted Poleto and Tom Maney allowed just 5 singles for the Marlins in defeat.
To my recollection, gimpy John Reel had 2 hits as did Tom Maney and Mike Girard for the Marlins.
Jack Perry's defensive gem in the sixth and final inning helped preserve the Fordians' win.

I was awestruck by the hitting performance by John Reel in this game.
Playing on torn cartilage in one of his knees, so that his team did not have to forfeit, John laid down a perfect sacrafice bunt in his first at bat and then collected three SOLID baseknocks. The last one was a ground rule double.
WOW, AMAZING!!!!
John, Good luck with the surgery. Hurry back!

On a side note it was really disappointing that the umpires decided to call this one at the end of six innings due to darkness (at 7:45!!!) With probably 30 minute of daylight left, in a one run ballgame, they decide that "there wouldn't be enough time to get another full inning in". Really a raw deal for all involved. Even the team that was awarded the victory wanted to play the game to its conclusion.
