In a tight game with some great clutch defensive plays by both sides, the Rockets and A's tied at 1 in an eight-inning affair. The Rockets scored first off of Art Gianakos in the fourth inning with the help of a couple A's miscues. The run was scored on a double play ball (one of three DP's turned by the A's). With runners on first and third, The A's got the run back in the 5th on a bunt play by Ferguson. With the play going to second to force the runner, Moon scored from third. The last two innings had pitching and defensive gems on both sides. In the top of the 7th, the Rockets loaded the bases with no outs. Moon was brought in to relieve Gianakos on the mound. With the infield in, he got the first batter to ground into a 3-2 force at home. The next batter lofted a fly ball to right field where Schuette made the catch, fired a strong throw to the cutoff, Ferguson at first, who then turned and fired to Walley at the plate getting the runner trying to tag up from third by a good margin. In the bottom the eighth, it was the Rockets turn at defense. With two outs, The A's had runners on 1st and 2nd. A hard ground ball got away from the Rockets first baseman, rolling behind him. The second baseman quickly got to the ball and ended the game with a great throw to home to get the runner trying to score.
