If you haven't heard by checking the MSBL web site, Artie's Albany Yankees did not make the play-offs in the 45 Wood Bat div.
We went 1 and 3 being out talented in 2 games (Attorney Hotline from Fla and the Red Sox team from Atlanta and losing a tough one at the end to our namesakes from Pa. The game we one, Artie did his magic from the mound (and three feet in back of) to stymie a determined team whose name escapes me.
With our core Albany Guys; Wayne Newcomb, Joey C, Andy Sheehan, me and Artie, we met up with some interesting characters to round us out into a less than steamrolling jagaurnaut.
But, we loved the new digs. After a rather unSouth Fla like chill to start our week the weather was a blue-skied 75 the rest of the tournament. The beaches are close but seemed to have had problems with erosion. Sue loved the Atlantic and it's powerful waves.
The fields we played on were incredible. Definetly on par with Clearwater, if not smoother. Roger Dean Complex(Cardinals and Marlins facilities) were 10 minutes from our hotel in West Palm Beach.
We had our first game at the Mets Tradition field complex in Port St. Lucie, about 35 minutes from our hotel. When we walked on the field with our pinstriped pants I knew we were asking for trouble, like a gang taking over someone elses turf. After being drumbed by the Attorney Hotline team, all I could do was think about my drab gray pants back at the hotel room.
Thank you to Artie for being at the helm. Sorry Sue and I didn't make it to that Greek Nightclub on Friday night.
As of this writing our 52 wood bat team is playing on these beautiful fields which also included Oriole Stadium in Ft Laud. -Dogertown in Vero Beach, hopefully they will get a stadium game as well. Here's wishing them well.
Thanks for the update Ralph. I remember we spanked the Attorney Hot Line team last year, and then we beat the Tampa Rebels which allowed the Hotline to sneak into the final four. You think they would have remembered!!! Ted and I had so wanted to play this year. We have a sister right in Vero Beach!! Just can't stay healthy.
We missed you last year in the championship game - One of these years, God willing, we'll get everyone together so I can get my ****ing ring!!
I'm glad to hear that you endorse the new location! I am putting it out there right now that I am committed to going to the Fall Classic next year, and I am starting the recruiting process right now. When we get all the pieces together, like we did in 2006 and last year, we are a contender for the rings! This year was a tough year to make it a go, but I think we need to put together another championship run in 2010!! Who is in?!
and Pete even edited the blank post ! attention to detail and not wanting, well nothing...to be taken the wrong way? master of the inside fastball, AND the unspoken word. both speak volumes.
Just to let all know, Jerry Hawkins got another ring in Ft. Myers!!! How many is that now??????? I guess Ft. Myers is a much better gig, according to Jerry H. It's much easier to get to games. As far as our 52 over Classic games, we averaged just about 45 minutes to get to games. Just a thought to throw around.
here's a thought to throw around............stay closer to where the action is. all night juice bars and gamblin' till dawn is no way to go thru life son.
