Hi guys Im in the process of putting together a fund raising indoor WIFFLE BALL tournament for the 3rd weekend of February (20-21). The proceeds will go to the Equinox Youth Center where I work. Itll be a great pre-season get-together. I already have two teams committed to play.
The Equinox Youth center is a place for troubled youths to go after school, keeping them off the streets while providing an education center, basketball court, rock climbing, laundry services, video games and dinner every night. For some of the kids (13-21), its where they live from 3-8pm before going out on the streets to find a place to sleep. It has helped many city kids choose healthier alternatives to joining gangs or selling drugs.
Unfortunately, the Equinox Center is sustained through federal funding and private contributions. As we all know, federal funding has become scarce in the last couple of years. ANY money that we can raise will be greatly appreciated.
Heres the proposed format:
Tournament will be help indoors (site not yet decided on)
Winner of the tournament will earn 1/3 of the total money collected (the other 2/3 will go to the EYC and towards expenses of equipment and the venue)
Double Elimination - Guaranteed at least 2 games
10 teams maximum (3 to 5 players per team) team may have 3 players in the field but hit 5 players. Rotating players in the field is ok
$100 entry fee for 3 player team / $150 entry fee for 5 player team
All games are 6 innings (extra inning game decided by a HR Derby)
All games will have a 1 hr. time limit (please remember up to 20 games will need to be played over the course of the weekend)
Pitching will be limited to medium fast pitch (would like input on the use of the slotted waffle balls vs. the waffle balls with the round holes)
There is no base running involved
Bats and balls will be provided
Field dimensions, rules and assorted waffle ball information at the following website: http://www.bostonbaseball.com/whitesox/baseball_extras/whif.html
I would like to know how many teams are interested in participating in this tournament before moving forward on a location. Thanks guys I hope we can put together this 1st annual waffle ball tournament which is going to a very good cause.
All entry fees will be required prior to the day of the tournament - Thank you!
