Golden Marlins 6 - Senators 1

The Golden Marlins scored 6 times in the first two innings and got strong pitching from Chuck Sohl and Phil Gadomski to limit the Senators to just one run. The Marlins pitchers were backed by some strong defense, especially up the middle, where TJ Scorsone and Randy Craft made some very difficult plays look easy. New additions, Mike Ferraro and Curt Coons led the way with two hits each while splitting the catching chores.
I don't have the book for the details, but the real story for the Senators was the play of Dave VanWormer at 3rd base. With a slower than average pitcher on the mound, Dave was peppered by line drives and hard hit shots off of the Marlins right-handed hitting line-up. He made almost every play, and helped his team stay in the game, when it looked like it was going to be a blow out. After two innings the Marlins had 6 runs. The final score was 6-1. That should tell you what Dave's defense meant to his team in innings 3 thru 7. The Marlins pitching and defense were just too much for the Senators to overcome on this day.
We will meet again.

Thanks Mike, it was mostly self preservation and the will to live that got me through that game. I sure hope Ed is going to be there when we play you next . Think I'll play First!
For the Senators offensively, Joe Burns and Chuck Handford had 2 hits apiece. Like Mike said, after giving up 6 in the first 2 innings, Ron Collins blanked the Marlins the rest of the way, mixing slow curves with slower curves and adding in an efus pitch once in a while. Correction...I was just informed that that was not an efus pitch, it is in fact, Ron's fastball. See you next time Fish!! Worm
