Father's Day games

Awesome day yesterday at New Scotland for the 2nd Annual CDMSBL Father's Day Classic. A very special way to spend Father's Day with our sons and families! Thanks to Don Wixon for allowing us to share the day together. Great Job Donnie!

Thanks to Tommy Smith and Mrs. Smith for the burgers, dogs, etc....perfect!

Thanks to John Reel, Don Dunham, Steve Van Gelder and Q Jensen for giving your time to umpire....and thanks to everyone else who contributed to this event.

I remain amazed at the quality of our core leadership group and their willingness to volunteer their time and efforts so that we can play this great game. What a first-class organization!

Ditto to everything Jim said ....

And we need to point out that not only did Donny organize everything ....... he caught the entire first game in 85+ degree heat...

and as i was leaving to head to my kid's games i heard Jim McQuaid say prior to game 2 "we don't have a catcher" ......

Thanks to Don Wixon for all his efforts in organizing the 2nd Annual Father/Son Event. I would also like to thank John Reel, Don Dunham, Steve Van Gelder, Tommy and Pam Smith for all their hard work during the event as well.

This event was loved by all that played. The opportunity to play baseball with your son or in some cases with your father is a dream come true.

The weather was great, the teams were fair and the competition was amazing. Being one of the umpires in game 2 gave me the opportunity to reach out to alot of the sons about playing in the CDMSBL. Some may get a chance to play this year while others def. next year.

I look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.

Like Jim said above I am a very proud member of this league. Where else could you play baseball from 18 to 55 and beyond.

Thanks again for all who played and helped out. This means so much to me that all our league members come together as one................now thats priceless.

I appreciate everyone's thanks, but it is now time for me to extend my thanks. Without all the volunteers who gave of their time freely and willingly this event would not have happened.

Tom and Pam Smith, Bill Bryant and John Corrigan stepped to the plate early on and made my work much easier. From providing a grill, spatula, tongs, and coolers to Pam making last minute trips to the market, Tom and Bill manning the grill and selling T-shirt's, signing in the player's and any and everything I asked of them allowed me the time to answer questions and make what few decisions were required. Not only were they gracious, they showed a wonderful enthusiasm for hard work on a very hot day. Tom managed to stay cool when asked by a young lad for a grilled cheese sandwich. He simply asked the boy if he wanted it on round bread (hamburger bun) or long bread (hot dog roll). Round bread was the choice, so Tom put cheese in the bun, wrapped it in foil, placed it on the grill, and in a few minutes, voila!, a grill cheese sandwich. I believe I saw the lad later asking for another 'special' grill cheese sandwich.

Don Dunham, John Reel, Steve VanGelder and Quentin Jensen ably umpired the games. If we had that talent umpiring all our games there would be no complaints. Thanks fellas.

Managing is hard enough, but imagine managing a team with many players you have never seen before. A great job done by John Corrigan, Bob Weitz, Pete Gennellis and Jim McQuade. It wouldn't have happened without your willingness to perform these duties. Mucho gracias!

Darrell Duncan I so appreciate what you have provided to this league. Not only did you make the park available to us but you had the field being worked on from 6AM to just before game time by one of your tireless workers. Thank you to him, I forget his name, my bad. And as testament to your efforts I heard the players say "What a great field".

Thanks to the father's and son's, and yes, the grandfather and grandson, Bill Kervan and grandson Devin, a first for this event, for your participation, hard play and 'gamer' efforts displayed by all in this greatest of all games, baseball. The skills exhibited by the younger sons, 16 and under, in the first game showed me the game will be in good hands in the coming years. Thanks to the Stanley boys, John and Michael, the young and skilled John Pologa, the 2 hit Devin, the fielding and bat of young Lapinel and Sean Corrigan's stick and knowledge of the game. The older son's have the speed, both in the arms and legs that have long passed us dad's. You all brought a smile to my face and your dad's with your competitive spirits and sense of fair play. Pride was proudly worn on the faces and carried in the heart's of all us dad's.

To the family of fans your cheers and participation were of great value to all the player's. Thank you and hope to see you next year for the 3rd Annual Father-Son Classic.

Don Wixon
