I am handicapped by not having the scorebook, but the story of this game was the outstanding pitching by Jim Latorre for the Hummers and Phil Gadomski of the Cubs. Yes, I said JIM Latorre!!! Apparently Jim got his release from the Blue Jays and landed back on the Hummers roster. Jim was his old self, limiting the Cubs to just 5 hits over the seven innings, striking out many with his hard slider. Three of those 5 hits were by Ron Lochner. Phil Gadomski matched the old warhorse for six innings, but the Birds scored three in the top of the seventh to get the victory. Ron Coons got the leadoff double in the seventh to start the rally. It was a well played ball game from start to finish by two of the older 35+ teams. I can't wait for the rematch!!! Sorry about the lack of other details, but the book went home with the manager, and I am trying to forget the game, which is easy with my early onset of Alzheimers!
There was a key 2 strike bunt early in that inning, turned up being a clutch play.
Nobody plays a more fundamentally sound game than the Humming Birds. They always have, and it's been a huge part of their success over the years. They always execute in a key situation.
Good to see Jimmy Latorre wearing orange again, he was dominating.
