Under overcast skies the Vets and DaBums took to the New Scotland Field Sunday afternoon. Da Bums came roaring out and put together 4 hits and a walk to score 2 in the first. The Vets responded by scoring 4 in their half of the inning. Bill Kervan settled in on the mound and held DaBums scoreless over the next four innings, striking out 4. Helping the Vets cause at bat were Van Gelder, Vidor and Gianakos with 2 rbi each, Al Hart chipping in with 2 hits, and Newcomb, Lawyer and Wixon scoring 3 runs each. (Testing was done on Kervan after the game, but he was clear of any steroids, but there was a question of another substance found in his system, yet it didn't enhance his performance on the field of play, at least baseball play.) DaBums were swinging the bats all game and never gave up, loading the bases in the last inning, bringing the fans to the edge of their seats only to have Van Gelder make a fine running catch in left center of a very solidly hit line drive. I apologize for not having the name of DaBums player who hit the rocket, but our scorebook does not have the last inning recorded. I only have first names but Al had at least 2 hits for DaBums, and Jim had a hit, and did a good job of managing. The boys never gave up and I appreciate that.
