Cubs wake up a little late, but just in time!

On a hot and muggy Saturday morning, the Cubs battled the Highlanders to a 4-4 tie through 6 full innings. The alarm went off in the top of the 7th and the Cubs bats erupted for 2 home runs and 9 total runs to win 13-5!
The Cubs supported starter Ron Massaroni with 4 runs in the top of the 1st on a double by Tom Maney, an RBI double by Randy Craft, a single by Ron Lochner, a walk to Andy Hoyle, a 2 RBI double by Mike Girard, and a RBI ground out by Sean Maney.
The Highlanders never threw in the towel, as they clawed their way back with 4 in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The rally was started by a Cos DiBari single (who had a solid day at the plate).
Tom Sheperdson came on in relief of Massaroni in the fifth and pitched two perfect innings to keep the game tied heading into the top of the seventh. The seventh inning started with a double by Girard and a RBI single by Joe Cicarelli. With two out and Cicarelli on second after a stolen base, Highlander pitcher Dave Reed had a melt down! He thought a pitch that had been called a ball to Phil Gadomski should have been a strike. Well, he then proceeded to walk around the mound mumbling to himself. Then he strolled out to second base to complain about the call to his second baseman. Even his own teammates had enough and they counselled him to get back on the mound and throw the next pitch. It took about three minutes in total for this little tantrum. His next pitch to Gadomski was met with some Kharma and Phil's bat as Mash pounded the pitch over the left center field fence for a two-run home run. As Mash rounded the bases, I'm sure that Dave heard the Cubs' comments : "That is what a strike sounds like!" The next Cubs batter was Ron Massaroni. Dave threw the first pitch right at Ron. Ron got out of the way and got back in the box with no complaints. The next pitch from Dave drilled Ron in the elbow. Cos DiBari (Highlanders' manager) did the right thing to diffuse the situation. He pulled Mr. Reed from the mound and sent him to the bench. Dave went right for his equipment bag and picked it up and headed straight for his car. He left the park as he yelled out:"I'm done."
With that little psychotic episode over, the game continued and the Cubs followed with four consecutive walks. This caused Cos to make another pitching change.
In came Kevin Jackson, and Kevin did exactly what any pitcher would do after coming in after 4 walks in a row. He threw the first pitch right down the middle. Andy Hoyle drilled that pitch over the center field fence for a grand slam!
Phil Gadomski came on to pitch the seventh inning and close out the game.
