playoff math

Here it is in a nutshell:

Silver Marlins have played 16 games and are 10-6. The Rockets have played 16 games and are 9-5-2. Each game is worth 2 points. If you win you get the two, if you lose you get zero and if you tie you get one.

Silver Marlins have 20 points. 10 wins x 2. Divide 20 by 32(total number they could have if they were 16-0). Winning percentage is .625.

Rockets have a total of 20 points. 9 wins x 2 = 18 plus 2 ties worth one each. 20 divided by 32 = .625 winning percentage. They are tied and it would go to the first tiebreaker which is head to head.

Thanks. It's so simple when you explain it.

Is there a list of tie-breakers anywhere? I'm not stressed over any of this -- just think it's good policy to establish these things before the fact. Right now it looks like a five-way tie for second place. Or sixth, if you're a glass half-empty kind of guy.

Thanks, Dick.

I will add percentage next to each team's record so manager(s) won't be confused.
