The Dodgers defeated the Cougars Tuesday night 16-0 . John Reardon pitched 5 innings for the win. John faced 16 batters giving up 1 hit striking out 2. Only 2 batters hit the ball into the outfield.
Wayne Newcomb had 3 hits, John Corrigan, Frank Kerbein, Mike LaBarge, and Jose Moreno each contributed 2 hits to pace the Dodgers 16 hit attack.
If John Reardon isn't the toughest starter the Cougars have faced so far this season, then I don't know who is. Variable speed, movement, and pinpoint control--with that combination, he made it look easy. John's one of those pitchers who prompts the comment "we should be rocking this guy" as you resume your place on the bench after a 6-3. Needless to say, it's a lot harder than it looks. A great job by a great guy.
And the bats? Simply put, the Dodgers hitters are an imposing force. I don't think my book shows 16 hits (maybe Eddie's scorekeeper was trying to spare the Cougars' defense the ignominy of 9 errors), but I can attest there are no easy outs in that batting order.
The pain of such a loss is not easily shaken, but if we had to lose this way, it couldn't be to a nicer bunch of guys.
Continued good luck to Eddie and the Dodgers.

Frank, THANK YOU for the kind comments regarding my pitching performance against your Cougars. As it is with every good pitching performance a great defense is needed and I definitely had that. The Dodger's defense made so many outstanding plays from battling the blinding sun on the right side, solid fielding by Eddie O., Jose M., John C. and Nick C. on the hard hit ground balls in the infield and of course the timely turning of the double plays. Mike L. called a great game for me. I don't need to say anything about the Dodger's offense as you and Ed have covered that. The Dodger's team has come a long way from when I first joined the team and that is because of Ed Rogers and his hard work. The commitment by the players on the team this year, to be the best that they can be has changed the Dodgers for the better. Now we are a team that is competitive and everybody knows that when they are playing the Dodger's that we are not the team of old (THE BUMS!!!) but a team that will be playing the game the way it is meant to be played, hard, with intensity, good fundamentals, good pitching, good defense, timely hitting, good sportsmanship and of course a little baseball luck from the baseball Gods. Frank, I wish you and the entire Cougar team the best of luck for the rest of the season and during the playoffs.
