The Albany Nationals earned a 1st round win over a pesky Highlanders club at Indian Meadows on Saturday by a score of 6-2. The Highlanders took a early 1-0 lead in the first on a throwing error. Joe Fitzgerald settled down after that scattering 5 hits in route to a complete game win. The Nationals bats woke up early and the the Nats scored 2 runs in the 3rd, 3 more in the 4th and 1 in the 6th to notch the victory.
Bobby Lane (3 - 4, RBI, 3 Runs, 2 SB), Fred Andersen (3 - 4 , 3 RBI), Brian Donnelly (2 - 4, SB, 2 Runs) and Joe Fitzgerald (2 - 4, 2 RBI's) led the charge for the Nats. Bobby Poulin also had two hits and Dan Ryan hit a long double to the left field wall that just missed going over. The Nationals had 15 hits in all and with most of their key players there, they finally looked like the team that started 7-1.
The Nationals will now take on the # 2 seed and their longtime rivals from the 25+ league (Nats were formerly the Marlins), the Cubs. This should be an entertaining and hard fought series.
Series is scheduled for:
Monday 5:45 at Indian Meadows
Wednesday 5:45 at New Scotland
Saturday (If Necessary) 10:00am at New Scotland
