For 14 weeks, the Senators vs. Thunder game this Sunday was scheduled for 11:45am. Due to the fact that the time was changed to 5pm, which I happened to stumble accross this Sunday after our game, I cannot field a team. Yes, I stumbled across this time change, because i was never given the courtesy of a phone call or even an email. We are all adults here, with families, jobs and responsibilities, therefore we have to make plans in advance. Several of my guys did make plans, thinking we were playing at 11:45, which they can't, nor should they have to change. The answer I received to this problem is borrow some players. Well, I refuse to borrow 5 players from another team and really don't think I should have to. Therefore, let it be known that the Senators will not be at New Scotland at 5pm to play the Blue Thunder. Sorry guys, I was looking forward to playing you with a full squad........maybe in the playoffs. Someone please cancel the umpires, so we are not charged. Also, with this situation and advance notice, I don't expect ot be charge the forfeit fee. Dave VanWormer
Dave - I understand your frustration with the schedule change and I don't want this post to be taken personally. I also understand the difficulties that John Reel has in arranging and rearranging schedules to accommodate rain-outs et cetera. The Blue Thunder found out about the schedule at our game on Sunday. We are scrambling - and changing some plans - to get a team to New Scotland at 5:00 on Sunday.
Your decision to forfeit is denying the Blue Thunder an opportunity to play baseball this weekend. You did not have the courtesy to call or e-mail the Blue Thunder manager to discuss your team's dilemna. Why don't we re-think the situation and look for an alternative that would allow us to play some baseball. The options would include finding a field for an 11:45 game, changing some personal schedules and calling in some subs.
Don; I spoke to John when I found out about the change and he told mehe would work on it. I got a message from him stating the schedule will remain as it is, borrow some players. Whats to discuss? I refuse to play a game without half my own players, beyond that, my whole team is against it and have ageed. If someone can find another field, we will be there at 11:45. The message I got from John did not include that as an option.
Dave, as far as another field. Is New Scotland open at 9am. That may solve the issue. But the Thunder may need directions to the field, as we have played way more game at the Sattelite than we should have. While some teams have played as little as 3-4 games there. Some things just are not fair. But John has a lot on his plate. Like Don said we found out after our game Sunday. We also had a couple of guys that could not make 5 pm, but could have been there at 11:45. But we were going to play it anyway. Like it or not, sometimes when the commish makes ruling he has to stick by his guns. But he should not be bullied into making changes on the website. The last thing is, we just want to play ball. I am sure playing at full strength, which either team would be, would be better, but lets try to play either way. Or we could give each other directions to the gyms we work out in, and settle it there. You know I am just joking Dave.
I don't think the field is available at 9. As far as bullying the commish, to change the schedule, that decision was made when my game was changed. I want my game to remain in the spot that it was , so my team, which paid 2350 just like everyone else can play. I reiterrate the fact that I and my team cannot play at 5pm. Anytime in the morning will work.
The satellite field is available at 9:00 - and we know how to get there! That would push the 11:30 game to an 11:45 start.
The Dutchmen Field in Guilderland was a great addition to the league. Would that field be available for an 11:45 game? Would one of the fields in Cook Park be available at 11:45?
If we all work towards a solution I'm sure we'll find one. Let's play ball!
Now this is what wanted in the first place, some other options other than, tough &$@@, borrow 5 players. The 9 am start at satellite or somewhere else works fine.
My question is,"why were games bumped in the first place?" If there are rainouts that need to be made up, add them at the end of the day or scramble to find them fields to play on. Why reinvent the wheel in order to satisfy other teams so they can play at their convenience? Rainouts are a different story and we all know the chances that a rainout is scheduled where it is suitable for all is low. There is no logic to reschedule a game that has been scheduled for 14 weeks. Players have scheduled their other events around that SET time frame. It's obvious that it was wrong to do, since none of the teams got a phone call or any notification of the changes. The politics of this league sucks! Bottom Line!!! The logic involved is mind boggling, not really, it has been going on for years.
