Changing Schedules a week prior to a game without notification to the teams

Recently schedules have been changed without notice and now teams that have prepared to play at the original times can not field a team at the new time and are basically be told tough. This is wrong and unfair. A schedule is put out in advance with the purpose that teams and their members can prepare themselves to be at the game because of the commitment they have made to their respective teams. The time away from the game for most people has been committed to their families, jobs, friends and self. To change a schedule at the last moment, or within a week before the game without notice or reason is unsatisfactory! We can not let this type of action take place. When unscheduled games are put in place of scheduled games and the scheduled games are changed, it defeats the purpose of the original schedule. The simple answer is to add the new games into time slots where no games are taking place. It is a wrong doing to those teams and players who have scheduled work, and other events around their baseball schedule, just to have that schedule changed without notice or just cause. It is an injustice to those teams who have done the right thing to prepare their teams and players to make games and then to be told they will have to change that schedule. If this is allowed to happen, and teams are penalized that don't comply, it is simply wrong! Again, this league takes the greatest game ever played and makes it a political armpit! Don't allow these types of actions to take place!!!

This is the second nasty post I've seen about the same game. I just received confirmation that the game has been reassigned to Dutchmen Field (which is a great field) at the original 11:45 AM start. The reassignment was the result of a few guys getting on the phone and sending out some e-mails and working towards a solution.

Posting crap on the league website had nothing to do with resolving the problem. The next time you're upset with a league matter, offer your help.

I did offer a solution! If you read, it said, "don't change the schedule". That is what created the problem in the first place. If you need to add games, add them at open time slots. That simple, end of story. I've been involved with many leagues over many years and it's obvious to see the political implications in this one. In any organization, no man should have too much power. Too quote, "Absolute power corrupts absolutely!"

Wow!
Try being a commissioner before griping about how things he does affect you.
I'm sure that it would change your perspective quickly.
Don is right on the money!
The solution was right out there. All you and Dave had to do was look for it, instead of wasting your time griping on the BB.
All the complaining had to do with was how the Senators were inconvenienced by this schedule change that was posted at least a week in advance.
Without guys like John Reel and our other commissioners, that give their time so that we can just show up and play, we would not have to worry about "arranging our family, job and friends schedules" to make room for baseball games.
I, for one, cut all of these guys a ton of slack, for that reason alone.
The serious lack of appreciation for this (showed publicly here) gets really old.
I just want the commisioners to know that the vast majority of players in the CDMSBL really do appreciate all that you do on our behalf.

Well put by Mike and Don both.

I think a more appropriate quotation would be "You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution".

I understand the frustration that RonMac feels but his following quote is a perfect way to illustrate the issue that our league faces:

"The time away from the game for most people has been committed to their families, jobs, friends and self."

For the small Core-Leadership group of this league the time away from the game is also committed to allowing us to play the game. There is no time away during the season as they work all week long, all month long, as well as all-year long on our behalf. I can only imagine how much work and coordination is involved so that we can show up on Sunday, play for two hours and then go home. Hard to go an entire year without issues like this that come up and not everyone will be happy with the results, but as Don mentioned constructive suggestions and offers to help are what we need for the good of the league.

I've been a president, a commissioner and a scheduler for many years in other leagues and organizations. Changing the schedule without proper notice is bad policy. I have never run into the issues this league has in my dealings as a league official. It's not the fact that it is inconvenient to my fellow players and me about the change, the fact is people have made plans around the schedule. The politics in this league suck! Just do the right thing ALWAYS and that eliminates problems!!!

Appreciate the work you did on this Donny. Perhaps you could consider joining us in the thankless job of a board member next year?

I was done with this topic, but since Mike Girard had to drag me back in for some reason, referring to my griping on the board, I feel I have to defend myself.
A week before my next scheduled game, i find the game time has been changed, without even notifying me. I Call John Reel and he tells me that was done a week ago, he emailed Ed Class with the change. I am the manager of this team and have the same email, cell phone # and home # that I had 15 years ago in this league. John then told me he would think about what he could do, and get back to me in the next day or so. After 2 days i heard nothing, went on this website, which i rarely do, and find a private message from John. Again, i have the same email and numbers that I have always had, but for some reason they were not used again. Anyway, here is the message, which I saved for this very reason.
From John Reel to Dave VanWormer;
"I am going to keep the change for next sunday 8/22. so 5PM at NS . if you need to borrow do so. I am sorry for the confusion here but we need to proceed with the plan as everyone on the other effected 5 teams as already adjusted matters."
Now let me ask you Mike, does this look to you like any options were given to me? In another email to everyone, John said he was guilty of " trying to make too many people happy", which says to me, these changes to the schedule were made to appease someone else, without concern for the other teams involved.
Like I said, I was done with this whole thing, since we got the game back to where it was originally scheduled, 11:45am Sunday, after working with the Thunder. If i had not, as you put it "Griped on this Board", I would be forfeiting this game.
Finally, I will not be the bad guy here. If you have a problem with Ron McCarthy or his posts, please do not drag me into it. Ron obviously has issues with the subject, among them, he is flying out of town Sunday afternoon, A flight he scheduled around an 11:45am game, not 5pm.
Dave VanWormer
