Tuesday night @ New Scotland: Golden Marlins 15 Cougars 4

The Golden Marlins closed out their 3 games in 3 nights stretch and the regular season with a 15-4 win over the Cougars. The Golden Marlins used a balanced attack, as 10 of the Marlins' 11 hitters hit safely. The 14 hit attack was led by Ron Lochner's double and two singles; and Curt Coons' HR, two singles, and 3 RBI's. Mike Girard would also add a 3 run triple.
Phil Gadomski pitched the first four innings and gave up no runs, while scattering four singles, walking none, and striking out four. Tom Maney (YES, I SAID TOM MANEY) pitched (YES, I SAID PITCHED) the fifth for the Golden Marlins. In case anyone has been living on another planet for the past three years, Tom suffered a catastrophic shoulder injury, that left him unable to throw the ball right handed. Tom taught himself to throw left handed, and has worked his ass off to get stronger and more accurate with his throws. It is awe inspiring to watch! I know that I couldn't have done it. Well, last night, leading 9-0 in the 5th inning, John Reel handed the ball to Tom and gave him a chance to pitch an inning. Tom got through the inning giving up just four runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. I tip my hats to the Cougars' hitters, as they showed real class. They didn't take this gesture as an insult. They saw it for what it was: a classy manager rewarding a legend in this league for his hard work and commitment to the game he loves. Thanks guys!
Rob Rugen, Andy Andros, and Jim Kisselburg all went 2-3 on the night for the Cougars. The Cougars should give the Cyclones a run for their money on Labor Day, in the play-in game. Good Luck to both teams.

how cool: in one entry, mike shows that there are some really great stories and lives in this league: from john's characteristically thoughtful move to give tommy the ball, to tommy's demonstration, again, of the near outer limits of what's physically (and mentally) possible; to the cougars classy reaction.

but mike does more: medical research says we tend to live longer the more we feel good about ourselves and our world. way i see it, mike's note should add at least an hour or more to all our lives. and good hours, too.

Way to go brother!! It was going to be tough enough to beat the fish in a couple of weeks, now I've got to worry about a potential lefty-lefty matchup coming out of the bullpen!!

Yes Sir!
My advice:
Don't dig in!
He is effectively wild!
If you know what I mean?!

OMG Clary you are murder, I can't stop laughing at that pic, that is hilarious.

In answer to your question Donnie, no, it was the outfielders who needed protection.
Wow, did they hit some balls hard, one missile to center almost took Skips arm off.

Thank-you Mike G., John, Teddy, Jon, Mike H., Donnie, the Cougars,
and all my CDMSBL brothers!
