Brian Quinn went from "zero" to hero at New Scotland this afternoon!
Brian will be the first to tell you--he's had a tough year at the plate. Only three hits coming in to this afternoon's play-in game, and a batting average that, for much of the year, earned him membership in the Cyclones "zero" club. In fact, he even came up with the phrase himself! But in the third, with two runners on, Brian left the "zeroes" behind for good, as he launched a fastball from the Cougars' Dave Smith over the left-centerfield fence to pace a 14-run inning, and help the Cyclones stay alive in the playoffs with a 16-3, 5-inning win over the Cougars.
Brian is one of those guys anyone would be happy to have on his team. He's always one of the first ones to arrive at the field, and once the game starts, he takes charge from behind the plate, the way a catcher is supposed to.
Vince Koster picked up the win for the Cyclones, allowing just one hit and striking out three in relief of Artie Gianakos, who only allowed two hits in his 2 1/3 innings of work. Everybody scored at least one run, and everyone but Dave Webber--who walked twice--had at least one hit.
Thanks to Frank and the Cougars for a great effort, and best of luck to you guys in 2011.
