It's a bit disappointing to see that just 30 people have signed up for the golf outing on Monday. I realize most guys would have had to take off a work day, but what Voorheesville has done for this league certainly warrants a small sacrifice.
We've all read on this venue what a wonderful job Darrell Duncan and his crew have done for us over the years. We all say we're all so appreciative. Now we have a chance to show just how appreciative we are, and we can't get enough players to get 74 friends/family/teammates at the golf course. We have some 400 players in CDMSBL.
It's a bit frustrating that we can't support a community that has all but given us a key to the city. Jim Konstantakis Giants CDMSBL Board member
I disagree with your feelings about the league and it's members. I would bet if you asked everyone to contribute at least $10.00 out of their pockets they would do so gladly. Many of us can't take the the time off from work, many may not be interested in golf, and many may find even the $50.00 more than they can afford at this time.
Give us all a place to send the checks and I'm sure you get a great response and maybe more money than you would have made in the golf outing.
i have to agree with artie.(i can't believe that just came out of me.) i have been involved with a number of fund raising efforts, and i can tell you that it can be frustrating for a lot of different reasons. let's not confuse peoples failure to get behind this idea initially as a complete let down by the members of this league. if we establish a fund, and collect over the winter months,i'm fairly certain we can raise enough money in that time period to present a nice check to the folks who will appreciate such a gesture. let's not throw the baby out with the bath water because we did not get what we initially were hoping for. give the members of this league an opportunity to donate what they can, when they can. i'm fairly positive we will get some donations coming in which will restore faith in the members ability to get behind what is a great idea.
P.S.- Jim K. , how do you sit comfortably on that hard ass of yers anyway???
P.S.S.- how about a $10 or $20 dollar fee added on to each players fee for the 45 and 55 age division? P.S.S.S.- what time does downtown voorheesville open up? i wanna get my key.
Tell me were to sign, I've got a check to upgrade this park.
I love playing there, and I appreciate eveything that Darrel Duncan does for us.
There was no way I could get the day off, but I agree with Pete and Artie. Let's support this thru the league, I hope the majority of our members will feel the same.
Great idea Wayne, thank you to all who worked to supported it.
My suggestion is to establish a number we want to donate, divide that up between the 45's and 55's (maybe a little more for the 45's since we play more games) and possibly even the 35 teams that use New Scotland regularly and then tack that number onto the team fee for one year only so it can be split up among everyone who uses the field.
That way we don't have to collect from everyone.
After watching the labor day tourney unfold, with only 3 or so teams a couple of weeks before it started and then grow to 7 i do think we would have managed to pull off this tournament....
But ... it is my understanding that Wayne had this on his credit card..... and no one wants to get stuck with a big bill like this while trying to help out.
I agree with the above. I love to golf and spend most of my summer days doing just that. It is a different story when you have to take a workday off. I would gladly contribute to the cause and would support whatever the leagues want to do.
