heart sense

just got out of albany med this morning after having a stent put into my heart because of an artery that was 90% blocked. have two others that are 70% blocked, and in a few weeks, they are going to be stented also. for the sake of your loved ones and yourself, do not be afraid to have a stress test done. especially if like me you are short of breath or are tiring easily. this test probably saved my life, and it could do the same for you. hate to sound so dramatic on our bulletin board, but if it helps someone, it is worth it.

Pete, I am quite shocked, but so happy you found it important enough to make the effort for testing. I have lost a few close friends over the last few years, and they chose not to get tested, complaining of the same symptoms you stated.
My friend, thank you for getting this out there, as guys that play at our age, especailly guys in the 50's should take Pete's advice and get things checked out.
The stent procedure's, from what I hear are basically very safe, as well as a life saver, as you atested to Pete.
In any event, I'm very happy you made the effort Petey.
God Bless,
Mike Eplite

Great call on your part. We may think we are infallible when we got out on the field, but as we go on that is certainly not the case. We all think that it is not going to be us - and, like Mike, I have lost friends because they ignored the signs.

Get well, Big Guy. Look to see you out there again soon!

It's always a stress test for me when I step into the batter's box against you! Good luck with those other 2 arteries. It's good to know you have a heart! See you on the field. Jim Porter-WhizKids

Like you, Pete, I'm not comfortable putting this online. But my dad died at age 48 from exactly what you have had diagnosed. I, too, had those symptoms back in the mid-80s, though not as clogged to the extent that you are.
I went to a nutritionist in Virginia and read a few books. Outside of bungee-jumping, I'm now doing anything I want to with no fears. I'm 60, exercise regularly and my doc told me I have the insides of a healthy 30-year-old. It's a life-style change well worth a small effort for a huge benefit. Saves me bundles on drugs, too. I don't take any!
