Another perspective on our play in Florida. Detroit, which you now know won the ring, had players from New York, Detroit and Ohio on its roster as well as - so I was told - one former Major Leaguer. They also used two waivered players, hitting 1-2, and they were the courtesy runners for their 3-4 hitters. And they made it work. So, while we had two waivered players, so did other good teams, including Long Island.
But mostly what I was proud of is that all our players were from the Capital District. I consider Ted Poleto a CD player even though he now lives in Calif. I would love to know how CDMSBL would stack up against any other MSBL chapter using only their own players. We have somewhere around 45 teams, including the 18s now. As far as I could tell from Hardball magazine, New Jersey's chapter had more than 90 teams, Washington D.C. had over 80 and several others had between 60 and 80. So, we left a pretty strong impression with the teams in Florida on the strength of Albany-area baseball. And we showed it a few years back when Albany defeated New Jersey to win a title as did Kingston before that, though the Hummingbirds had guys from Conn. and Dutchess County MSBL on the team. And our 25 Division team has won back-to-back titles in New Jersey's tournament.
Point is, just expressing how proud we should feel about our very own CDMSBL. The regular-season competition here really prepares us for tournament play at all levels and it is an honor to be a part of that.
i consider myself a long distance CDMSBL player and always will.... I appreciate the connection to you guys....You should be proud of the league without a doubt..I have played in 15 consecutive WS and Fall Classics total and Albany stacksup talent and skills wise for sure...We needed a few pieces for sure and some times a rest here and there and that pop up becomes a line drive etc...In any event i am proud to be counted amongst you guys...thanks JK..
look forward to seeing everyone sooner than later...happy Holidays
