Several of us have received messages from Steve VanGelder and John Reel regarding Mike Eplite, who plays in the 45 Division and I believe in another division as well.
Steve has informed us that Mike suffered a heart attack. He is undergoing Stent procedures this week. Hes at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. According to Steve, a stent has already been put in one artery that was 100% clogged. He also has one that is 85% clogged, and one that is 50% clogged.
Mike has had some hard times lately with the recession. Hes unemployed and has no health coverage. In light of this Steve is organizing a pass the hat campaign for Mike. Please spread the word down the ranks and ask that guys send what they can to help out ... Steve has asked that checks be made out to Mike Eplite but sent to Steve. Steves address:

If you want to visit Mike, call the hospital first to be sure he's accepting visitors. I do not know what room he is in.
it's tough times for mike, a good man and fine ballplayer. i know that i and all the other guys in the league hope you pull through with flying colors. we need you back out there.
fortunately, this isn't a trend, but two guys felled by heart attacks, first skip treece and now mike, isn't something we like to hear, not at all.
last year, when i was laid up, this line from satchel paige really helped keep me going: "don't look back," satchel said, "something may be gaining on you."
so here's hoping that both you and skip keep looking forward.
