Sunday afternoon, the Blue Thunder and the Golden Marlins used a break in the weather and the hard work of Darrell and Jamie Duncan to get an important 45+ game in at New Scotland Town Park. The game started off great for the Golden Marlins as John Latorre got the Thunder in order in the top of the first on about 7 pitches. The Marlins then jumped out to a 4-0 lead by plating 4 in the bottom of the first. Randy Craft started the rally with a single. Phil Gadomski then sent Craft 270 feet to score with a solid double to left center. A pair of Blue Thunder errors later and the Fish were up 2-0 with runners on first and second and one out. Up came Chuck Sohl for his first at bat of the season. He hit, what would have been a single up the middle, that scored the third Marlins run. On his way to first, Chuck injured his right foot bad enough that he was unable to make it to first base. The Thunder centerfielder threw home to try to get the runner from second, the pitcher cut it off and relayed to the catcher, but the throw was not in time. That is when the catcher saw Chuck in trouble between first and home and threw on to first to get the out. Thus: The first 8-1-2-3 RBI groundout I have ever witnessed. It is tue what they say: If you stick around long enough, you will see everything. Jim McQuade followed with a 2 out RBI single to give Latorre a 4-0 lead to work with. That would be plenty as John scattered 6 hits and no walks, while striking out one in recording a complete game victory. The only run John gave up came in the third when Don Ball singled and Joe Hervieux doubled with one out and Stan Parese followed with a sacrafice fly. The Marlins would add a fifth run in the second inning on a RBI single from Gadomski. The fish would close out the scoring with two more in the bottom of the 6th inning on a leadoff single by Bob Coffey, followed by a stolen base and a Blue Thunder error. Phil Gadomski would plate the last run with his third RBI hit of the game. It was great to get the game in and get together with all of our good friends on the Thunder. A good time was had by all!!!
