On a Thursday night when we weren't even sure we were going to get the game started, much less find ourselves in extra innings, the Cyclones battled back from deficits of 4-1 and 7-5 to beat the always-tough Vets, 8-7 for our second win of the season. Joe Careccia led the way for the Cyclones with 2 hits, one a 2-run double. He scored two runs, and stole four bases, and his fielder's choice in the 8th inning led to the winning run, as Harold Jenkins steamed around third after a throwing error. Jim Bonaparte picked up the win for the Cyclones with 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief work, striking out 2 in the process. For the Vets, (former Cyclone and always good friend) Vince Koster stole three bases and scored two runs, proving once again that if he gets on base, he finds a way to score!
Next up for the Cyclones...the Blue Thunder next Thursday. Here's to a relaxing and safe Memorial Day weekend for everyone. And remember those who've fought and made the ultimate sacrifice for our country so we can enjoy the freedom to run around the bases and play this great game!
