Phil Gadomski pitched 5 strong innings, scattering 6 hits and 1 hit batter, while giving up 4 runs and striking out 5. Steve Lounello pitched the sixth and seventh, giving up one hit and 1 hit batter, while striking out 2 for the save. Chris Dunn, starting pitcher for the Reds, scattered 9 hits and 3 walks over his 7 innings, while giving up 5 runs (only 4 earned) and striking out 9. The game, which was switched to Voorheesville High School due to a scheduling conflict, saw 5 triples: a two-run triple by Andy Hoyle in the top of the first, a RBI triple by Tony Parella in the bottom of the first, a RBI triple by Paniccici in the bottom of the second, a leadoff triple by Mike Ferraro in the top of the second, and a one out triple by Tim Burns in the bottom of the fourth. The game wasn't decided until the bottom of the seventh. Tim Burns hit a long double with one out in the inning, but Steve Lounello worked a perfect pick-off play with second baseman Tom Sheperdson to erase the potential tying run. After Eric Kohls reached on a HBP with two outs, Lounello induced Wayne Newcomb to pop out to short to end the game. The Cubs move to 3-2 with the win.
