The Golden Marlins won their 3rd consecutive Championship in the +47 Division defeating the Whiz Kids. The Marlins won game one 6-2 behind the three hit pitching of Dennis Scimeca who went the distance giving up 2 BB’s, 3 K’s and 1 earned run. Dennis Pierce went the distance for the Whiz Kids giving up 6 hits, 7 BB’s, 5 K’s and 3 earned runs. Tom Maney went 2 for 4 for the Marlins and Don Dennis went 2-4 for the Whiz Kids.
The Marlins won game two 6-0 behind the 6 hit complete game pitching of Jim Ansel who had 8 K’s and 2 BB’s. Daryl Duncan took the lost giving up 9 hits, 3 BB’s and 5K’s and 5 earned runs. Mike Podgorski of the Whiz went 2 for 2 and Tom Maney of the Marlins went 2–3 with a double.
Both games were filled with fine defensive gems that highlighted an improving division. As parity is being reached between the teams, expect to see competitive games at their best in 2006.
The MVP for the series went to Ed Diegel for his consistent sparkling defensive play at third base and solid hitting.
