Jim Ansel, Jon Martin and Ron Massaroni combined in a 5-hitter to lead the Thunder past the Giants Sunday at the Satellite field.
Bob Bolt was equally as effective, allowing 7 hits and allowing just one earned run. Bolt also singled twice and scored the lone Giants run in the first inning.
While the Thunder pitchers were baffling the Giants, it was Steve Van Gelder who supplied most of the offense. Van Gelder slapped out two singles, scored a run and drove in a big run in the 7th inning. He was the only Thunder player with more than one hit.
Tony Nardacci singled twice and Paul Scutieri drove home Bolt with a sac fly and then singled in the 6th when the Giants loaded the bases with one out but failed to score.
The game was played in about an hour and a half. There were no walks in the game, though the Giants' Ron Smaka was hit by a pitch in the 6th.
The Thunder improved to 3-3 while the Giants fell to 5-2.
