55+ Cubs celebrate the return of Dave Mitchell.

The Cubs game vs the Pirates on Tuesday night at the A-Diamond was a celebration of the return to baseball
for longtime teammate Dave Mitchell. Dave had retired at the end of last year, but found the itch to return
too hard not to scratch. It was great to have the big guy back, not only because of the presence he adds to
the batting order, but also because of his huge personality. His absence left a big hole in the middle of our team,
and it is great to have him back!

The game was a 16-1 win for the Cubs. The Cubs collected 15 hits, while Jim Bonaparte limited the Pirates to just 1
earned run in 5 innings, on 4 singles, and 1 hit batter. Bones struck out 4 Pirates in his 5 innings of work.
Mike Girard led the offense with two doubles and a single in 4 trips to the plate, driving in 6. Dave Mitchell, Scott Ross,
Jerry Rosen, and Ron Massaroni all had two hits each.

The Pirates got their hits from Fred Pidgeon, Wayne Necomb, Jim Jasiewicz, and Williams (apologies - didn't get a first name).

The competition will heat up on Thursday night, with a game vs the Yankees, at 6:00 pm at the A-Diamond.
The Cubs vs Yankees games are always highly competitive and well played. It should be a great time!
