55s Yankees blank Dodgers

John Weber and Darrell Duncan teamed up on a four-hit shutout last night at New Scotland as Damn Yankees defeated a depleted Dodgers team by a score of 6-0.

The Yankees made the most of the few offensive opportunities they had against starter Rick Loffredo and reliever Jim Tesoriero with four runs in the first inning and single runs in the third and fourth. The Yanks left just one runner on base all evening and mustered just six hits, but one of them was a towering two-run double by Joe Carereccia that nearly cleared the fence in the opening frame.

Tesoriero, who came on in the fourth, was nasty in relief for the Dodgers. He allowed just one walk and struck out four in retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced. Harvey Staulters had two of the Dodgers four hits. A tip of the cap to John Corrigan, who is on the Yankees roster, but filled in for the Dodgers last night to give them nine players.

The anticipated rematch next Monday at Clifton Commons should be a dandy.
