The 55 Americans beat the Twins 9-7 last night at New Scotland. Errors, or lack of, were the deciding factor. The Twins committed 6 miscues allowing 5 unearned runs. The Americans were almost perfect making just 1 error. Rich Garbarino, the Americans starter, threw 5 2/3 innings , surrendering 6 hits and 5 runs while striking out 5. Vince Koster came in to relieve allowing 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 2. The Americans had 12 hits, 11 singles and a double by Mike Aiello. Starting pitcher for the Twins, Wayne Nicholsen, victimized by poor defensive support, took his first loss of the season and is now 3-1. Nicholsen went 6 1/3 allowing 9 hits, 8 runs (3 earned), and walked 4. The Twins managed 10 hits with Greg Briscoe leading the way with 3 singles, Terry McCarthy 2 hits including a double, and Rick Saidenberg with a double. The Twins ended the game with the bases loaded and the leadoff hitter up who grounded into a bang bang fielders choice on a nice play by the Americans second baseman .
