The WhizKids and Angels squared off at the A diamond Thursday night, with Mike Kane on the hill for the Whiz, and Phil (Mash) Godamski pitching for the Angels. The Angels scored in the top of the first on one out singles by Jim McQuade and John Reel. McQuade stole third, and scored on a fielder's choice by Jon Martin. That would all the Angels would score in the game, as Kane retired 12 in a row after Reel's single. He would finish with a 5-hitter with 5 K's and no walks. The Whiz tied the game in their half of the frame on a 1-out double by Kane, and a ground out by Shawn Martin. They took the lead in the second inning as John Cortese led off with a double, stole third, and scored on a single by Reggie Flansburg. The Whiz tallied 3 more in the fourth on RBI singles by Flansburg and Fred Muller. Flansburg got his third RBI in the sixth, driving in Gene Hallenbeck, who had walked and stole second. The game was played in a crisp 1 1/2 hours. Tom Maney has assembled a great group of guys. Good luck in the second half of the season.
