Cubs blank Dodgers.

Last Friday night, at the Clifton Commons in Clifton Park, the Dodgers and Cubs got together for their second meeting of the season.
Pitching and defense was the name of the game through the first 4 innings. Cubs starter, Mike Girard blanked the Dodgers through 4,
allowing just 3 base runners: a Marc Trinchillo single to lead off the game; Girard hit Miller with a 3-2 pitch in the 3rd, and Ray Coletta
doubled to left center with one out in the 4th. The Cubs right-hander did not allow any other base runners through his 5 innings of work, walking none
and striking out 3.

Ray Coletta was the Dodgers starter, and he was stingy as well, through the first 4 innings. The Cubs got a single run, in the first on a Paul Miles lead off
walk, two stolen bases, and a RBI ground out by Girard. A lead off walk in the third, to Ron Massaroni, and a stolen base started another rally for the Cubs.
Jim Bonaparte followed with a walk, but was erased on a 6-4-3 double play. A clutch two out single by Scott Ross, delivered Massaroni, and the Cubs led 2-0.

The game was decided in the top of the fifth, when the Cubs struck for 5 runs, on 5 singles (Ron Lochner, Dave Mitchell, Andy Hoyle, Ron McCarthy, and Massaroni),
a walk to Jerry Rosen, and a sacrifice fly by Bonaparte. The Cubs would add two more in the 6th on singles by Ed Class, Paul Miles, and a 2 RBI single by Girard.
The final run would be plated in the top of the 7th on a double by Hoyle, and a two out RBI single by Massaroni.

The final score was 10-0, with the Cubs getting two innings of stellar relief from Scott Ross. Ross faced just 6 batters, allowing no hits or walks, while striking out 2.
His slider was absolutely unhittable. Ron Lochner, Dave Mitchell, Andy Hoyle, Ron Massaroni, and Ed Class all had two hits each for the Cubs, who managed 15 hits.
The win lifts the Cubs to 8-1-1, while the Dodgers slipped to 4-6-1.

Next up for the Cubs is a game vs the Americans, on Thursday 09/03, at the A-Diamond, at 5:00 pm.
