The Albany Capitals, #4 seed, received a bye into the quarter finals of the Roy Hobbs Tournament, AA Division held in Ft Myers, FL. Jim Tesorio took the mound for the Capitals who played the #1 seed Aurora Islanders. The game was called after 7 innings as the Capitals won 17-2. Jim Tesorio pitched all 7 innings, where he gave up 7 hits with 5 K's and 3 BB. The Capitals were led by Jim Hicks who went 4-4 with 2 doubles, Shawn Martin 3-3 with a double and Pat Alston 3-5 with a double. For the Champioship game the Capitals took on the #2 seed Minnesota Goats. The Goats scored a run in the bottom of the 1st to take a 1-0 lead. The Capitals evened things up in the top of the second. Tim Burns led off with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Jim Tesorio. The Capitals scored 3 more runs in the top of the 3rd with a walk to Shawn Martin and singles by Hicks , Gene Hallenbeck and Ron Massaroni. The Goats scored 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd to make the score 4-2. Both teams went scoreless until the bottom off the 5th where the Goats scored 2 runs to even the score 4-4. The Capitals scored their final runs in the top of the 7th. Jim Hicks singled and stole second. Pat Alston singled scoring Hicks then stole second. Hallenbeck hit a double which scored Alston to complete the Capitals scoring at 6 runs. The Goats scored a run in the bottom of the 7th making the score 6-5 which ended up being the final score of the game. John Weber pitched 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 9 hits with 1K and 0 BB. Massaroni gave up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 BB.
Congratulations Capitals! What a perfect way to end this crazy season! Outstanding job by John Cortese to pull this team together! So happy to see so many of the Matinee players and my Cubbie teammates able to celebrate a Championship in sunny Florida! Awesome!!
CONGRATS Caps. John Cortese did one helluva job forming this team almost at the 11th hour. Great group of talented ballplayers who absolutely deserve this title. Can't wait to hear the stories.

love that Albany can produce winners. I know the feeling being part of the 2018 70 and over Philly Mustang team that had 4 Albany guys help win. Fred Pidgeon
