Pitching, defense and timely hitting led the WhizKids over the Yankees Tuesday night at the A diamond. Mike Kane allowed only 3 hits and no walks in the 7-inning shutout. The defense was solid, especially considering it was the first game of the year, following a rainout and a bye week. The offense showed up with 16 hits. Gene Hallenbeck was 3-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI, including a bases clearing blast in the 3rd inning. Bob Bolt, Joe Burns, Jeff Friedman, Pete Geanellis and Greg Mangione also had multiple hits. Mark Marshall had two of the three hits for the Yankees.
JP is being gracious. His Whiz Kids took us out back behind the woodshed and gave us a good whoopin. The only two balls squared up against Kane were turned into defensive gems. Better bring your A game against this squad, and hope they dont.
The Whiz have served notice that they are a favorite to win the title. Is there a limit on how many HOF players on one team?? I look forward to the rematch.
