55 Twins Take It On The Chin

The Twins and Cubs squared off at Kuhn Field last night . Cubs came to bat first and scored 5 runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and an error. Scott Ross had the big hit which was a double. Twins starter Stefan Koutsakis stayed in the game, found a better approach, and allowed just one run and 3 hits over the next four innings. Dave Mitchell of the Cubs hit a ball to left in the third that looked like it was going out but it dropped just short of the fence for a double and he was driven home by Andy Hoyle who stroked a single. Finishing out their scoring, the Cubs put together a strong 6th scoring 3 more on 3 hits and an error. The Twins finally got on the board when Jeff Whitehead led off the bottom of the 7th with a single off reliever Massaroni , moved up on a single by Terry McCarthy, and was brought home by a Dom Arcidiacono single. Scott Ross started for the Cubs going 4 innings while allowing 2 hits, 2 walks, and striking out 2. Massaroni pitched 3 innings of relief surrendering 1 earned run , 4 hits, and recording 1 strikeout. Mike Reatter, Dave Mitchell, and Scott Ross each had 2 hits for the Cubs. The Twins starter, Stefan Koutsakis, pitched 6 innings allowing 10 hits, 9 runs, 6 earned, issuing 3 walks, and struck out 1. Jeff Whitehead pitched the 7th giving up one hit, 1 walk, and struck out 1. Terry McCarthy had 2 of the Twins 6 hits. The Twins committed 4 errors while the Cubs had none.

Nice recap, Jim. The big double in the first was by Jerry Rosen, not Scott Ross, but otherwise right on.
I had the Cubs for 12 hits: 3 for Dave Mitchell; two each for Mike Reutter and Jerry Rosen, and one each for
Ron Lochner, Andy Hoyle, Mike Girard, Jim Bonaparte, and Scott Ross.

Other than the infield grass being a little long, Kuhn field was in great shape. Big Thanks go out to
Jim Bonaparte for acquiring this field for us. He has been doing this king of work for this league for well over a
decade. Thanks, buddy!

Scott Ross was masterful on the mound, allowing just two singles and two walks, but no runs in his 4 inning stint.
Only one runner reached second base. Ronnie Maz finished up scattering just 4 hits and no walks during his 3 innings.
The defense was solid behind these two, as the Cubs improve to 2-0, with a game with the Americans next up on Thursday evening
at the A-Diamond. This game will mark the return of PJ Martone, who will be in from out of town (Phoenix, AZ) for two games.
Good friends getting together again for a great time on the diamond! Can't wait!

I have aware about it but it wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be.
