The 55+ Dodgers and Angels met on a beautiful evening for baseball at New Scotland.
The Dodgers knocked on the door early; loading the bases in the 1st and 3rd innings but the gritty Angels would allow just two runs. The Angels then cut the lead in half as Jim McQuade singled, promptly stole 2nd and 3rd and scored on a groundout. The Dodgers responded in the home-half of the 4th as the lower portion of our order drew two walks, benefited from a throwing error on a bunt and finally got a base hit with the bases juiced.
With the score 6 - 1, Ray Coletta relieved Jimmy T on the mound. This pair of aces would issue just one walk and would face just 27 batters in seven innings of work.
The Dodgers added two in the bottom of the 5th as dribblers by Ball, Schaefer and Cortese loaded the bases. An RBI single by Joe Kosek and a walk to Coletta widened the margin to 8 - 2. Greg Gougler lined a single to left to start the bottom of the 6th and first-year Dodger, Pat Alston sent a moon shot over the left field fence to finish the scoring.
The contest always seemed closer than the final score and it is always a privilege to share the field with the Halos.
