The baseball field at Watervliet High School is Dennis Lane's baby--and he dotes on it like a proud father. The field had been abandoned and all but forgotten for several years, until Dennis, a teacher at the school, singlehandedly undertook its reclamation. And now, after many long months of toil and sweat, the results are nothing less than spectacular.
The grass is lush and uniform, the infield dirt is smooth and even, and the batter's boxes and mound are flawless. And yet Dennis is still working on it, endeavoring to make it even more of a masterpiece. Of course, you wouldn't even know that the field is being used, as, Dennis has been dutifully maintaining it to perfection, week after week.
Everyone who steps onto this field owes Dennis a debt of gratitude. Thanks to his efforts, we now have the use of a first-class facility. Of course, there's more to the story, and I hope Dennis will share it here.
I tip my cap to you Dennis--and to your beautiful baby!
