Cubs gain semi-final birth with win over Pirates.

The Pirates got off to a flying start on Friday night, when they grabbed a 1-0 lead, in the top of the first.
Jim Jasiewicz singled to lead off the top of the first and stole second and third. Cubs got two quick outs without allowing the runner to score, but
Richard Knipper found some open real estate with a 2-out RBI single, and the Pirates owned a 1-0 lead.

The Cubs would immediately bounce back when they got a leadoff walk from Ron Massaroni, and singles from Jim Bonaparte and Ron Lochner
to load the bases with nobody out. Mike Reutter followed with a moon shot grand slam, and a 4-1 Cubs lead. The Cubs would never look back
as they had all 10 batters score in the first. They got 7 in the second, two in the third, and a final run in the 4th.
The Pirates would fill out the score card with a run in the 4th on singles by Jim Ansel and Jim Kidd.

Reutter led the way for the Cubs offense with a 4-4 performance with 6 RBI's. Jim Bonaparte, Dave Mitchell, and Andy Hoyle added 3 hits each.
Dave Schillinger, Ron Lochner, and Mike Girard all added 2 hits each. Kevin Moon added a single, two RBI's, and a long fly out to left, in his best
performance at the plate this year.

Next for the Cubs is game one of the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the Dodgers - Twins game, which will be completed on Monday at the B-Diamond.
That game is tied 3-3 after 7 innings. They will play until they have a winner, with the prize being a date the next night vs the Cubs.
These 55+ playoffs should be exciting the rest of the way.
