Yankees take Pirates Behind the Woodshed!

9/23/21 (Watervliet, NY) The Yankees took the Pirates behind the woodshed last nite at picturesque
Watervliet High School, and romped to a 10-2 thrashing of the Buccos. Jim Konstantakis was masterful in a complete game 6-hitter, 0 earned runs, with 0 walks and 2 Ks. The Yankees defense was its usual team wide-outstanding, making all the routine plays. Wayne Newcomb was solid in defeat, allowing 2 earned runs over 4 innings, but the Pirates undoing was 7 errors in the game. Ron Smaka (3 r and 2 sb) and Steve Van Gelder showed the way for the Pinstripers with 2 ribbies apiece, each with 2-baggers. Tony Nardacci was his usual vacuum at 3B (how is this guy not in the HOF?) plus 2 hits, while Pete Gianellis and Tim Brown also had 2 hits and an RBI each. John Weber also ripped a double for the Yankees.

Pirates still alive and kicking (1-1) and face the Americans, Monday at the A-Diamond.
Yankees will have to wait on the outcome of Cardinals and Arachnids on Monday, and will face the winner of that tilt at the A-Diamond on Wednesday.

Pirates 2 6 7
Yankees 10 11 1

WP Konstantakis 1-0
LP Newcomb 0-1
