This may not be the most interesting read for some, but, heres what a few of us did a couple days ago. I have a friend who happens to be president of an excellent MSBL in Easton, Pennsylvania, the town my dad grew up in. Earlier this season he asked if I might be able to pull together a team to play a doubleheader against his team primarily made up of players from his 65 world series champions with several guys in their 50s thrown in. They are trying to stay sharp for their annual trip to Arizona later this fall. I was able to assemble a team from CDMSBL and we went down to PA this past Saturday. Gotta tell youit was challenging, invigorating, and fun. The men from Easton were talented and although they took both games 7-0 and 10-7, we held up pretty well. We even pulled off 4 double plays in our first game. As much as we love our CDMSBL, the experience of playing against guys youve never seen before in an area far removed from home is energizing. They fed us well with an Italian themed picnic after the second game while we got to know each other and laid the foundation for them to come to us next year. Thank you to the guys who took the time to make that tripTwins Rick Saidenberg, Joe Parker, John Newman, Tom King, Jim Edelman, Pirates Jimmy Jasiewicz, Bill Farrell, Cardinal Bill Chichester, and our 9th player was borrowed from our hosts, a 76 year old second baseman named Tony who was instrumental in helping us pull off those 4 double plays I mentioned earlier. Very talented for his age. Worth noting, one of their catchers played a few years of minor league ball for managers Andy Etchebarren and Sparky Lyle. Another guy played football at Cornell with Ed Marinaro. Our opposition looked imposing on the field, but, not so much when we shared a meal after the games. As I said at the start, this might not be the most interesting baseball read, but, it was on my mind.
