Congrats to the Cubs. Unfortunately the Caps didnt fair as well on Wednesday. We imploded in the first inning giving up 11 runs for a final 17-1 killing. We finished our round robin with a 2-3 record. We were told that baseball would be played on Thursday due to weather so it was also important to rest certain players. Thursday started our singing elimination and because of that final killing, we were placed as an #11 seed in the A bracket. Game one against the #6 seed Cuyahoga Indians with Johnny Weber pitching a gem into the 5th inning. The score was 13-3 us, so I rested Weber and had Wayne Nicholsen finish innings 6 and 7 for the mercy win. It was nice to see our bats wake up once again. Game two quarterfinals against the Steves Sports Cleveland and we faced former major league pitcher Pedro Borbon Jr. This was the most exciting Florida game I have ever been involved with. We played small ball and worked the counts. What the other team didnt know was the competitive spirit of pitcher Jimmy Tesoriero. Of course he had tough innings and we had pitchers warmed up in the bullpen. But he had a special calm in him today. We were ahead 1-0 in the 2nd then tied in the 3rd. We were ahead 4-1 in the 4rth then tied in the 5th. We were ahead 6-4 in the 6th, then tied in the 7th. I have never seen concentration on our batters and defense by our players like this game. We had 2 double plays and never gave up. In the 8th inning we scored 2 more runs! Top of the ninth, Jimmy T (still pitching!!) retires the first two and with their weakest batter at the plate nails a shot close to the left center fence. Joe Careccia throws a strike to second base to end the game. Unbelievable!
