Board of Directors Meeting 2/1/2022

Your Board of Directors met on 2/1/22 at Top Level Athletics at 531 North Greenish Road, Rensselaer, NY. This is a nice indoor hitting facility you may want to check out as the owner Ryan Ruddy is very interested in building a relationship with the CDMSBL. If you find the time please stop in and check it out and let Ryan know you play in the CDMSBL.
The main focus of this meeting was the reviewing of the season plans for all the Divisions in the CDMSBL. I am happy to report that all the Division plans were approved except for the Matinee Division which was tabled until the next meeting in March. The reason for tabling this proposal was the fear that as presented they would not be able to cover the costs of the season. Co - Commissioners Jim McQuade and Jim Konstantakis proposed keeping the registration fee at $30 per man and the per game fee also to remain at $10 per man. The BOD's questioned whether this would be enough to cover costs as the price of one umpire behind the plate is now $110 per game. The Board asked the Commissioners to consider raising the per game fee to $15.00 to cover the increase. Their decision will be presented at the next BOD's meeting. Stay tuned on this.
Another change worth noting with the Capital Division was that because of a current balance of $2,896.00, no registration fee of $30 will be required this season. The $10 per player per game will still be collected.
The 62 Division ended with a positive balance for its inaugural season. The managers met and decided one umpire behind the plate for $110 will be utilized and two stipends were approved. One for Tim Brown who does all of the scheduling for the Division of $250 to be carved out of the Commissioners fee and $50 to Harold Jenkins for all the work he does on the Bulletin Board during the season also to be carved out of the Commissioners fee. The 55 Division will not be raising season fees this year because of a large balance and will try to spend it down this year as the League has a Not for Profit designation. In the 45+ Division some sad news was had by all. The Cougar Team will no longer be together. Congrats to Frank Montagano for keeping this team viable for so many years. The good news is that a new team was added keeping the total number of teams at 10.
John Reel brought up a suggestion that that the League come up with a Heat Index Policy so our players are not playing in dangerous conditions. This conversation was put aside for further discussion for the next meeting.
There has been no decision yet on how to honor Tom Bradley with a League type award. The BOD's were directed to come up with ideas for honoring Tom at the March Meeting.
John Reel also congratulated the Board for the way that they handled the Covid Pandemic and did not give up as some Leagues in the MSBL did, and were not able to reform after the OK was given to play. John thanked the Board for keeping the CDMSBL alive during tough times.
An issue from the November meeting was brought up again after more info was gathered. The result was that a former 45+ GM was barred from becoming a General Manager again after a 7 - 1 vote of the Board of Directors.
Submitted by Bob Noto, League Secretary.

I would be interested to find out who the 1 is in the 7-1 vote. If the evidence submitted is even half of what the rumors are behind the decision to bar this GM from managing again then I would think that 1 vote should have their integrity questioned. If there was a personal reason for voting alone instead of a vote in the best interest of the league then that person should probably be removed from the Board of Directors.

I knew it.
Frank Montanano has been flying in players on Sunday to juice up his Purple Squad.
I dont know what happened, but sounds like Frank got caught.
No wonder why mysteriously the Cougars are folding.
Seriously Frank, great run. Everyone who has played against your teams knows that no matter what the score, your teams played with desire and class.
The Cougars will be missed.

Damn Frank - the Cougars were the only team in the 45s that I was allowed to pitch against! And I always enjoyed subbing for the Purple Gang.

Our league has lost another personality. Enjoy the sunset.

As a former, three-season long Cougar myself, many thanks to you Frank for letting an old guy, 62 then, play in the 45s,
and, more, for not laughing, at least audibly, when I donned catching gear.

I'm sure that I'm not alone when I say that many players are grateful to you for the generous playing time you gave them.
It's the best gift a manager can give his players.

Thanks, too, to your wife Sandra and your daughters for their never-failing cheers.

Here's hoping you're still managing in the 55s.

-Mike

I second Ralph's comment. No matter what the score, the Cougars always played like it was 0-0, never giving up. Classy group of guys.

I want to thank Frank for giving me a chance to baseball again. It's been almost 20 years since Frank agreed to put me on his 45 Cougars and his 52 Cougars. I really appreciate all he and his family did for the Cougars. Frank will be missed for sure. Maybe he would consider a 62 squad? Thanks, Frank for everything.

Great run, Frank. You were a rock in keeping the franchise together for as long as you did. That's a lot of work and you and your players always showed up ready to battle.

Thank you to all who so graciously shared such kind words. I have deeply appreciated the encouragement and support that I have received from so many quarters over the course of my fifteen-year run with the Cougars. Most of all, I am grateful for the opportunity I've had to meet the many wonderful people who have been a part of our esteemed CDMSBL. For me, the fellowship has always been an essential part of the experience.

I ran into some bad luck recently health-wise, but assuming I am able, I intend on playing a bit longer. After all, if the incomparable Mike Hart is still going strong at age 75, I should be willing to go to at least 70!

And, Mike, thank you for mentioning my faithful girls. I don't have the words to express my gratitude for the help I've received from my dear wife Sandra, who kept the book, made sure I stayed hydrated, and chased down countless foul balls over the years--and so much more. I believe I can count the games she missed on two fingers. And the same goes for my firstborn, Astrid, who not only ably assisted Sandra, but tirelessly served as my personal bullpen catcher and hitting coach. Believe me when I say that I could not have done it without them. Funny thing, both Sandra and Astrid actually saw a bit of playing time in 45+ games with the Cougars! Yes, they did it all.

Frank

We could follow the current high school Heat Index Policy if we wanted to have something in place to keep players safe.
