18 hits were recorded in the Twins verses Whiz game last night on a hot and dusty B Diamond. Unfortunately for the Twins, the Whiz had 16 of those hits. No way to sugarcoat it. It was a tough one for the Twins as the Whiz were in the drivers seat pretty much throughout. Charlie Freer led off the game for the Twins with a long double down the left field line off Mike Kane lifting expectations for the visitors. Kane and the shortstop worked a clever move to pick Freer off thus ending the early threat. Probably did not help that Freer and the Whiz SS were having a bit of a chat when the pickoff happened. The Twins got the ball out of the infield only 2 more times in the game. Kane was masterful inducing numerous infield ground balls and pop ups. Interestingly, Kane struck out just one batter. Much of what he threw was low and away but in, or very close, to the strike zone. These kinds of games are no fun for the team that loses, but, they happen now and then. Freer had both Twins hits. Whiz win 13-0.
