Dave Madden pitched three strong innings and got solid relief from Al Wolfert and Marc Tryon to help the Hornets win their opener. Defensive gems by SS Ron Smacka and 3B Al Wolfer drew some gasps from the crowd and both benches. Several Hornets had key hits, but it was DaBums who made a statement. This team is dramatically better than a year ago and it was great to see. Take 'em lightly this year and you'll get beat.
Overall, Opening Day in the 47s went great. Thanx to all the managers who worked so hard during the off-season to again make this day special. They are a pleasure to serve. And the Yankees made it clear they are no expansion team talent-wise. Artie did a great job putting that team together within the rules that govern our division. Nice job. The Blue Thunder will play its first game of the year this Sunday. JimK
