The Whiz and Damn Yankees met for the 1st of 4 games last night at the B Diamond. Starting pitchers were Bob Bolt for the Whiz and Lex Herrlett for the Damn Yankees. The Whiz got it started early scoring a run in the top of the 1st. Dave Sirani led off with a single, then stole second. Paul Graziano laid down a sac bunt moving Sirani to 3rd. Shawn Martin hit a liner over 2nd to score Sirani. Bottom of the 1st saw the Yankees come right back, Herrlett, Jim Hicks, and Joe Careccia all singled to load the bases with 1 out. Dave Smitherman hit a liner through the right side that scored 2 runs. With runners on 1st and 2nd and 1 out the Whiz were able to get out of the inning, turning a double play on the next batter to end the threat. The Whiz scored 4 more in the top of the 2nd. With 2 outs and nobody on, the next batter was hit by a pitch, then singles by Jan Friedman and Pete Geannelis, resulted in a run scored. A walk to the next batter loaded the bases for Bob Holmes, who hit a liner to right center that cleared the bases and he ended up with a double. Bob Bolt settled in and gave up 1 base hit over the next 4 innings. Top of the 4th, the Whiz scored 8 more runs on 7 singles and 2 BB. Bob Bolt gave up 5 hits, with 3 K and 0 BB. Herrlett and Daryl Duncan combined for 3 K, 3 BB and 1 HBP. Whiz take game one, 13-2
